Grapes "Moldova" is a table variety with medium late or late (depending on climatic conditions in the cultivation zone) ripening period. The parent pair is represented by the varieties Guzal Kara and Villar Blanc. The originator of the variety is NPO Vierul from Moldova.

Grade characteristics

Interspecific hybrid of the Euro-Asian region "Moldova" is known to many under the name "Late Codrianka" and widely zoned in Ukraine almost thirty years ago. Stably good yield of this grape is recorded in the southern regions of Russia.

Biological description

The grape bushes of Moldova are vigorous, with large leaves that have a round, five-lobed, almost whole or slightly dissected shape. A folded sheet plate or with a slight mesh wrinkle. The lower surface of the leaf is characterized by weak bristly pubescence.

The flowers are bisexual, well pollinated. Bunches of cylindrical or conical shape, with a structure of medium density. The average weight of the grape brush is about 380 g. The mass of the largest clusters can reach up to 1 kg.

Technical characteristics of berries

The berries of Moldova grapes are quite large - 2.5 x 1.9 cm. The average weight of the berries is about 5.5 g. The shape is oval, the color is dark purple, there is a thick waxy coating. The ripe flesh is fleshy and relatively crispy. The dense skin has a sufficient margin of safety.

The taste is good, but at first glance the taste is somewhat simple. Sugar content is from 17% to 18% with an acidity of 7 to 10 g / l. Crop rationing should be carried out. Tasting grade evaluation is 8 points.

Grade Benefits

Grapes "Moldova" has a set of the following advantages:

  • indicators of resistance to mildew, damage by oidium and rot at the level of 2 points;
  • increased phylloxera resistance;
  • wasps the berries of this grape variety are not damaged;
  • frost resistance is -22 ° C;
  • the variety is very transportable;
  • grapes have high commercial qualities;
  • the shelf life of the crop, subject to conditions, is 6 months.

In addition to the above advantages, it should be noted that Moldova grape bushes regenerate very quickly and fairly easily after pruning or as a result of accidentally received damage. You need to know that when the crop is overripe, initially quite high indicators of transportability and keeping quality can significantly decrease.

Grapes "Moldova": cultivation

Growing rules

Grapes "Moldova" are thermophilic, and when planting it is necessary to take into account the following requirements and recommendations:

  • land for planting should be well provided with nutrition and moisture;
  • hypersensitivity to calcareous chlorosis involves the implementation of work to improve soils not suitable for cultivation;
  • the variety belongs to vigorous, which must be taken into account when selecting a planting scheme;
  • a strong thickening of the planting of grape bushes can provoke growth in the vine and a significant decrease in productivity with crushing of loose clusters;
  • to obtain high productivity, planting of grape bushes should be carried out in accordance with the 4 x 5 m scheme;
  • the best option is to grow grape bushes of this variety as a horizontal arbor culture.

Grapes "Moldova" refers to the category of varieties recommended for cultivation by experienced winegrowers, versed in the intricacies of agricultural technology.

Care Features

Grapes "Moldova" is very demanding in care. Even minor errors can negate many years of work on growing vines.

Watering and feeding

For the Moldova variety, constant monitoring of soil moisture indicators is very important. Of particular importance is given to watering at the beginning of the growing season, as well as during prolonged drought. Optimal is the use of an automated drip irrigation system, which will reduce labor costs and increase the profitability of grape cultivation.

The indisputable advantage of such a system is the ability to control not only the irrigation process, but also supplement it with liquid top dressing, which is especially important for this grape variety. The bushes are very responsive to the application of mineral fertilizers, mulching the soil around the boles with high-quality organic matter, and also respond well to the application of potassium-phosphorus fertilizers.

Cropping and shaping

Grapes "Moldova" is more correctly grown on long-sleeve formations. The growth should be placed as freely as possible. The variety does not bear fruit well both as a result of overloading grape bushes with crops, and in case of underload. On arches and arbors, as well as in large formations with a large supply of perennial wood, grape bushes aged eight to ten years are able to demonstrate a yield of about 150 kg.

A fan formation on 4 sleeves is considered convenient. In this case, it is recommended to cut the fruit vine into 10-14 buds, which will allow to give an optimal load on the shoots. Shorter pruning causes the bushes to fatten to the detriment of the crop. At the same time, the vine on the vine bushes ripens along the entire length of the growth.

Reviews of winegrowers

To obtain a high-quality and stable annual crop, experienced winegrowers land in planting pits with parameters of 1 x 1 x 1 m. The bottom of the pit for planting grapes is lined with a layer of ordinary clay of 10-15 cm. The main condition is to ensure the proper agricultural background, including the addition of humus to the soil in the soil, feeding plants with wood ash and mineral fertilizers. Watering should be carried out regularly, using warm water. Crops under such growing conditions are about 30-40 kg per grape bush.

The variety "Moldova" ripens quite late and therefore is most in demand for personal cultivation in the southern regions. The variety is one of the most beloved for many experienced growers. At a time when almost all other hybrid forms and grape varieties are departing or have already departed, the Moldova variety is still ripening, forming a very good crop.

Harvesting grapes "Moldova"

Many gardeners cultivating Moldova for several years have noted the versatility of this rather popular grape variety. It can be consumed immediately after collection, used for the manufacture of juices and wine, and also laid for long-term storage. Without creating special conditions, grapes retain their qualities and external attractiveness until the New Year holidays. At present, perhaps, there is no more successful grape variety for long-term storage and transportation.
