Strawberries “Mice Schindler”, or “Frau Mieze Schindler”, belong to time-tested varieties. The variety was obtained by German breeders a little less than a century ago. Famous and popular varieties of garden strawberries “Lucida Perfect” and “Johann Muller” were involved as a parental pair when crossing. As a result, a medium-late ripening variety was created, which has good frost resistance and drought resistance.

Description and characteristic

Garden strawberry “Mice Schindler” forms low, slightly leafy bushes. Relatively high peduncles are located slightly above the leaves. The plant is characterized by the formation of a sufficiently large number of whiskers. Small leaflets, smooth and dense. Leatheriness and dark green coloring of the upper leaf plate are characteristic. The bottom of the sheet has a silver tint. On individual bushes, mustache remodeling may occur.

Flowering same-sex. Successful pollination requires planting late-ripening pollinators next to the Frau Mieze Schindler. Berries of medium size, round or flattened, dark cherry in color. The pulp of the berry has a light raspberry color, friable consistency. The first crop is formed from berries weighing up to 18-20 g. In subsequent years, the average weight of the berry is about 5-6 g.

Landing Features

Before planting, a thorough inspection of the seedlings should be carried out. Plants should be completely healthy, without dried roots or diseased leaves. It is recommended to process planting strawberry bushes with Fitosporin solution.

Garden strawberries of this variety require planting in well-lit sunlight, not waterlogged areas. The soil must be fertile, breathable and light. Landing is carried out in the spring or in the autumn period. The standard nutritional area for one plant is 50 x 20 cm or 60 x 15 cm. This scheme of planting allows you to get the maximum yield from each square meter of area.

It is advisable to plant prepared strawberry bushes in the evening or in cool, sunny weather. The depth of the hole should correspond to the size of the root system of the strawberry bush. When planting, it is recommended to add humus with wood ash to the planting pits. After planting, plants need abundant watering with warm water with root and growth stimulants, as well as shading and mulching of the soil around the bushes.

Care Tips

The German strawberry variety called “Mice Schindler” is not very demanding and shows a high yield when carrying out standard care:

  • watering is carried out in the morning or evening hours with warm water;
  • as fertilizers, it is allowed to use mullein, rotted litter manure, bird droppings, nettle infusion, as well as complex fertilizers for berry crops;
  • strawberry ridges need to be weeded regularly, and then the soil is loosened;
  • To protect the ridges from the formation of soil crust after irrigation measures or rain, shallow loosening of the soil is also carried out;
  • the use of organic or inorganic mulch reduces the need for weed removal and cultivation;
  • Harvesting is done as the berries ripen.

The variety is quite winter-hardy, but when cultivated in the northern regions, as well as under the condition of a snowy winter, freezing of plants can be observed. Therefore, it should be in the autumn to carry out the shelter of the plant.

Gardeners reviews

Despite average yields, Mice Schindler is highly regarded by gardeners for their excellent taste and appearance. The ripe berry looks like raspberries, and the taste and aroma combine shades of mulberry, raspberry and wild strawberry. Strawberries of the Mitsa Schindler variety have a rare taste with a very bright strawberry aftertaste. It differs from the taste of classic garden strawberries and is easily recognizable. Berries are recommended to be consumed fresh. The harvested crop is unsuitable for canning, juice preparation and freezing.

How to protect strawberries from pests

Valuable advantages of this well-known variety are also resistance to low temperature indicators, low risk of damage by powdery mildew, gray rot and strawberry mite. The resistance of this variety to spotting is not high enough, so you need to pay attention to the preventive spraying of strawberry crops. When cultivating "Mitsa Schindler", one should take into account the high demands of the variety for abundant and regular irrigation measures, but without waterlogging of the soil at the planting site.
