Pear "Cure", or "Curé", is known to many gardeners under the more popular and common names "Winter Williams", "Large Winter", "Pastoral", "Plebanovka" or "Popskaya". This winter early pear belongs to the category of random seedlings. A distinctive feature is the good taste of the fruit and the possibility of their long-term storage.

Grade description

Cure pear is an early winter triploid variety of unknown origin. The seedling was found by chance as early as 1760 in the Fromenteau forest by the Frenchman Cure Leroy, thanks to which this popular variety has received further distribution and is still known in many countries. The description of the variety and its characteristics made it possible to regionalize the Curé pear in the North Caucasus region.

The variety forms strong-growing and long-lasting fruit trees. The crown of an adult plant is very well leafy, quite dense, with a wide pyramidal shape. It can reach a diameter of four meters. The result of the crop load is the drooping of the ends of the branches down, which allows the crown to give a slightly drooping look.

Shoots of a cranked tipadlinny, average thickness, light brown color. For annual shoots, a burgundy-brown color and a slight pubescence of the upper part are characteristic. The flowers are quite large, white, with dark pink anthers.

Fruits are large in size, weighing 250 g or more. They differ in a slightly asymmetric, elongated-pear-shaped. The skin is smooth, matte, relatively dense. At the removal stage, the main color of the skin is light green. In the phase of full ripening, the color of the fruit changes to whitish-lemon-yellow.

Pear "Cure": features of the variety

Growing rules

With the right choice of variety and proper care, you can grow a pear not only in the south, but also in the more northern regions of our country. However, the Kure pear variety is most widespread in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, as well as areas with a mild and hot climate throughout the growing season.

When choosing a site for planting, it must be remembered that a pear of this variety is a very thermophilic plant and as a result of severe frosts it can not only freeze, but even die. For the cultivation of this fruit crop, a well-lit place where melt or rainwater does not stagnate is optimal.

"Cure" can develop well exclusively on slightly acidic soils. The best soils for cultivating pears are clay and loamy soils, and areas with heavy clay and light sandy soils do not always have a positive effect on fruit crop productivity.

In order to get stable and high yields, it is imperative to carry out a full range of measures to protect fruit plantations from pests and diseases, as well as late spring frosts. Care for this variety is standard and consists in the implementation of watering and top dressing, as well as timely pruning of the plant crown.

Harvest dates and features

Pear varieties "Cure" refers to the early winter, so the fruits ripen in the last decade of November or early December. Based on long-term observations, we can conclude that the harvested fruits are normally preserved until the last days of January. It is best to collect the fruits in dry weather, immediately after the dew has dried. In order to preserve their quality indicators and presentation in the storage process, the following conditions must be observed:

  • Wet pear fruit must be well dried before storing;
  • storage of the harvest is carried out in the basement, cellar or other dark and cool room, including closets, pantries or unheated rooms;
  • humidity in the room where the crop will be stored should be at least 80-85%;
  • the temperature regime in the storage should be maintained at a level of 0-1 ° C;
  • Before laying fruit, it is recommended to clean and disinfect the room, followed by ventilation.

Spread the fruit in specially prepared boxes is necessary in layers. Each layer must be sprinkled with fine wood chips or dry and clean straw.

Reviews and recommendations of gardeners

Pear "Cure" is very popular in the southern regions of our country. The plant is tall, with a dense crown. The variety is high-yielding and not particularly demanding in care, which earned positive feedback from gardeners. It begins bearing fruit about the sixth year after planting annual seedlings. The advantages include relative cold resistance, stable yield and lack of pickiness in the composition of the soil on the site.

Pears: variety selection

However, according to many summer residents, the taste of the fruit is quite average: there is insufficient juiciness and density, as well as moderate aroma of the pulp. In addition, the fruit stands of this variety are highly growing, which greatly complicates the implementation of basic care and harvesting activities. More frequent thinning of the crown is necessary to prevent thickening and overloading of the crop.

Experienced gardeners recommend carefully observing when collecting fruits for long-term storage so that they do not have a single damage, not a single speck, otherwise the whole harvested and stored for storage can be destroyed in almost two weeks. The fruits of this winter variety should be stored in the basement until spring. With an optimal microclimate, pears do not change their taste and do not spoil at all, which is another indisputable advantage of the variety.
